Air is life. It surrounds us, and yet it is invisible. It is synonymous with lightness, yet it has weight. It is essential for survival, and human and world health depends on its quality. Polluting it is a grave sin and a symptom of the violence present in the human heart (LS 2). In many cultures, air is a symbol of freedom, movement, and purity. The Holy Spirit breathes life into the world and fills it with love. It is, then, necessary to listen to the breathing of the world to slow down our pace, to reduce our thirst for power, and to recognize simplicity as the path to happiness.
